Musician, singer, actor, comedian, and beatbox extraordinaire, Reggie Watts has layers like an onion. If onions ate edibles, that is. Born in Germany and raised in Montana, Watts’s love affair with cannabis started with the finest schwag a teenager’s money could buy. Thankfully, that crispy weed didn’t hinder him as he stayed on a path that led him to learning all of the benefits the cannabis plant has to offer. Somehow he always gives the audience exactly what they want—not even Watts knows what he’s planning, from a TED Talk and comedy specials to his tones and beats on Comedy…
The Arkansas House of Representatives has passed a bill to clarify that medical marijuana patients can obtain concealed carry licenses for firearms, sending it to the Senate for consideration. Days after moving through the House Judiciary Committee, the legislation from Rep. Aaron Pilkington (R) passed the full chamber in an 82-5 vote on Tuesday. Pilkington said on the floor that the state’s medical cannabis law makes it so “no patient’s right or privilege could be infringed upon on the basis of having medical marijuana” but that “this wasn’t extended to concealed carry holders.” “Federal law says gun rights should not…
You are still free to get high in the “Big Sky.” That is because last week, lawmakers in Montana voted to table a bill that would have effectively dismantled the state’s new adult-use cannabis program. Republican state Sen. Keith Regier introduced Senate Bill 546 in Montana last month that would have eliminated recreational marijuana dispensaries in Montana. Almost 60 percent of voters in Montana approved a ballot initiative in November 2020 to legalize weed for adults aged 21 and older, which set up a regulatory framework for a state-sanctioned recreational cannabis market. Recreational cannabis sales launched last year, ultimately bringing…
After an almost three-year hiatus, acclaimed psych rock band moe. is back on the road and ready to rock. The band is currently touring the United States through the end of the year and is absolutely stoked. “People are showing up, everybody’s psyched to see Chuck [Garvey] back and everybody’s psyched that we’re playing again,” said percussionist Jim Loughlin. “It’s been fantastic.” When we connect by phone with Jim and moe.’s longtime drummer, Vinnie Amico, the guys are feeling revitalized and excited to reconnect with their fanbase. Among other topics discussed was the potential for new music being created sometime…
The federal U.S. Sentencing Commission (USSC) has approved an amendment to update sentencing guidelines advising judges to treat prior marijuana possession offenses more leniently. At a public meeting on Wednesday, members of the commission voted to promulgate a series of amendments to existing guidelines, including a multi-part criminal history revision that adds cannabis possession as an example of an offense that generally warrants sentencing discretion. As it stands, federal judges are directed to take into account prior convictions, including state-level cannabis offenses, as aggravating factors when making sentencing decisions in new cases. But as more states have moved to legalize…
Recreational marijuana sales in New Mexico totaled more than $300 million in the first year of regulated adult-use cannabis sales, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced on April 3. Lujan Grisham signed the Cannabis Regulation Act into law in April 2021, legalizing the use of marijuana for adults and creating a framework for regulated sales of adult-use cannabis. Only one year later, in April 2022, licensed sales of recreational marijuana began at regulated dispensaries in the state. Since then, New Mexico regulators have issued around 2,000 cannabis licenses across New Mexico, including 633 cannabis retailers, 351 producers, 415 micro…
I’m not here to talk about any specific brand or any specific strain, but in my capacity as a journalist, I have been tasked with truth-telling and to tell you the truth: I have been extremely disappointed with the lack of quality in the California rec cannabis market as of late. We’ve all heard the news stories and the insufferable bitching from corporate cannabis CEOs about how the legal market just can’t compete with the traditional market, but past the press releases and the buck-passing, anyone in the cannabis space should be asking themselves: what exactly is standing in the…
A bill to legalize marijuana nationwide in Germany will be formally introduced by the government “immediately after Easter,” a top health official says. He also seems to be pushing back on recent reports that the measure has been significantly scaled back from an initial framework announced last year. The legislation was initially set to be released by the end of the first quarter of 2023, but that timeline was extended “due to scheduling reasons” as officials reportedly worked to revise it in order to avoid a potential conflict with international laws. German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said on Wednesday that…
The news came out a few days ago. Not an official go-ahead to begin, but a final approval for the much-anticipated Switzerland recreational cannabis trials; the trials that will help determine recreational cannabis policy for an upcoming weed market in the country. The trials are still yet to begin, but more information is now available for what to expect; and the final barrier for it to happen, broken through. What are the Switzerland recreational cannabis trials? There are two things happening in Switzerland concerning recreational cannabis, but they’re heavily related. For one, Switzerland decided via a Council of States vote…
Live performance of any kind can be a daunting, stressful and strenuous activity. This is the case for any type of performance; if you’re an athlete performing in the Olympics, if you’re a musician on tour, if you’re an actor on set or onstage, if you’re a soldier fighting in a war, or if you’re a student taking an exam – all of these have similarities. The similarity between these activities is the need to perform, there and then, and do it well. You’re there, in the flesh, the pressure is on, the stakes are high, and you want to…
